A 45-year-old man has been arrested in south east London this morning on suspicion of war crimes relating to the first and second Liberian civil wars between 1989 and 2003, the Metropolitan Police said.
The 45-year-old was arrested by officers from the Met Police War Crimes Team on suspicion of war crimes, contrary to section 51 of the International Criminal Court Act 2001, Scotland Yard said.
He was detained in south-east London around 7.20am on Thursday and has been taken into custody at a central London police station.
Police said the arrest follows an allegation of offences relating to the first and second civil wars in the African nation between 1989 and 2003.
Officers are searching an address in south-east London and inquiries are ongoing.
