Two women and two children dead after ‘truly terrible’ house fire in London

Two women and two children have tragically died in a house fire in Bexleyheath, London.

London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe has confirmed the incident and offered his sincere condolences to those affected.

He said: “This is a truly terrible incident which is both sad and shocking. Our thoughts are with the family, friends & local community.”

The incident took place on Thursday evening and saw six fire engines with around 40 firefighters called to Hamilton Road in Bexleyheath.

Crews using breathing apparatus managed get the four people out of the building, using a ladder to access the first floor, but all four sadly died at the scene.

A man managed to escape the blaze before fire crews arrived. He has since been rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 8.28pm and the incident was over by 9.45pm.

Crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, Lee Green and Sidcup fire stations were all in attendance.

The Metropolitan Police are now at the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

People on Twitter thanked the London Fire Brigade for their work after they shared the tragic news.

One person wrote: "Thank you for your work. All of the services arrived tonight with an obvious intent to try to save lives. This will not be easy for the crews and I hope they are well-supported."

Another said: "You do your best always… Even though sometimes it doesn't seem enough."

This comes just after another major fire broke out in the UK.

Film crews were left in shock after a massive blaze engulfed a workshop at the famous Pinewood Studios in Slough, Berkshire.

Film workshops 141 and 142 have been affected.
