AN ACCUSED murderer's stepdad has said he won't try "to get his son out of it" and apologized over and over to the victim's family.
Christopher Hawk, whose 22-year-old stepson Deundrea Holloway allegedly beheaded his pregnant ex-girlfriend Liese Dodd, said he wished he could try more things to help his son before Dodd's death.
Holloway suffered from severe mental illnesses for years and heard "dark voices," Hawk told The Sun.
Holloway's parents tried getting him help, but he refused help while still being haunted by the voices, including one that was named "Ruth," Hawk said.
They brought him to a clinic, but Holloway wouldn't take the medicine and left after a couple of days.
During his 30-minute interview with The Sun, Hawk wanted to share this message with Dodd's family:

"I don't know them, and I don't know what to say. I do not want to minimize what happened to them at all. I don't want to minimize their loss at all. I am sorry. I'm really sorry.
"I'm ashamed, and I wish I could go back and try other tactics than we did."
Hawk said he thought the key was the clinic that they tried about two years before last week's alleged murder.
They brought Holloway in after he told his mom he was hearing voices in his head.

But Hawk said his stepson didn't "want to be caged in," didn't want to take the medicine and left the clinic, which couldn't hold him.
"I don't know if there's anything specifically that I would have done different. I think the key thing would have been that time he was (in the clinic).
"If we could have kept him in there long enough to get on his meds and adapt, then I think we would have had a better opportunity of keeping him at our house for a period of time."
Instead, he walked out and became "transient," Hawk said.
He came and went to his mom's house to get his mail or when he was in a lot of pain.
The way the police described his stepson when they said he was a monster "dehumanized" him and didn't take into account his mental health struggles and paranoia.
It also takes away from the victims – Liesle Dodd and her unborn child.
"Everyone knows Ted Bundy, but no one remembers who he killed. I want everyone to remember Liesle Dodd," Hawk said.
He recalled his last one-on-one interaction with his stepson – who he called "D" – before last week's arrest.
Hawk sold him his truck, and "D made a comment about humanoids and some people not being fully human."
"That was the voice Ruth," Hawk said. "Ruth told him that certain people are humanoid, and you can't trust them. They're not real. And he told me they're also telling him who he can and can't trust.
"He didn't mention the other two voices' names but Ruth was somebody who would tell him that he needs to shut certain people up.
"From what I understand, she never directly promoted violence. But I guess if Ruth is telling him he needs to shut somebody up, that's violent, especially if you got the paranoia going on."
THE ALLEGED CRIME
Dodd's mom found her daughter's remains in her Alton, Illinois home on June 9, 2022, and her body was discovered in a nearby dumpster, cops said.
Alton Police Chief Marcos Pulido told reporters that her mom went to check on Dodd when she found her remains.
He said she was "savagely killed," adding it was "beyond reprehensible."
Cops revealed that Dodd and Holloway, also 22, dated on and off for around two years.
Holloway has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child.
