‘Stalker’ ex-wife ‘poured bleach on son’s dad and slit his throat’

A stalker sprayed her ex-husband's face with bleach before leaning over him and slitting his throat as he collapsed in the middle of a street with a knife lodged in his back, an Australian court heard.

Bonita Vivien Coue, 53, is accused of murdering Kerry Michael Rooney after getting a bus to his apartment building armed with a bottle of bleach, two kitchen knives and a toy gun.

She had allegedly watched the 51-year-old single dad's comings and going for two weeks before laying in wait in a staircase when he arrived home with his 10-year-old son on Wednesday night.

She is said to have told police that she sprayed his face with bleach to get his attention and stabbed him in the back as he turned away, Mail Online reports.

Coue continued to knife him and pointed the gun at a neighbour who came out with a baseball bat who she also sprayed with bleach, magistrates were told.

She leaned over Mr Rooney and slit his throat after he collapsed in the middle of the street in Newmarket, Brisbane, prosecutors allege.

A knife was found lodged in his back when officers arrived and arrested her in front of horrified neighbours at the scene, the court heard.

Hungarian-born Coue on Thursday appeared before magistrates charged with murder, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm – including the alleged attack on the neighbour, and a further count of going armed as to cause fear.

The Courier Mail reported that she refused to accept free legal aid, telling magistrates: "I can't afford it… she's spruiking for business for Legal Aid… the bill comes later."

Coue reportedly sat as each of the charges were read to the court before stating: "May I say the first charge is true… and the fourth one (going armed as to cause fear) was self defence."

The matter was adjourned until July 12.

Mr Rooney was employed as a test analyst with Queensland's Department of Education and had previously worked with Queensland Health and the Department of Transport.

The couple had separated in 2013.
