Silicon Valley Harry ‘goes against everything the Royal Family is about’

Prince Harry’s swanky new job as an executive at billion dollar tech company goes against "everything the Royal Family is about," a commentator claimed.

The Duke of Sussex’s new role at Silicon Valley startup Better Up, a mental health and life coaching app, was announced on Tuesday.

He will use his prized Chief Impact Officer role to "help create impact in people's lives," and drive them towards "personal development" and an all-around "better life."

Meghan Markle's husband told the Wall Street Journal he has been using the app since January, but Royal commentator Daniela Elser claims the Duke's latest move goes "against everything" his Royal lineage is about.

The Australian columnist, who has over 15 years experience, claims Prince Harry's foray into the world of Hollywood business is seeing him "stray further" from the Royals and "into territory" that could be beyond return.

Writing for NewsAU, Ms Elser wrote: "Prince Harry’s latest move has seen him stray further into territory that goes against everything the royal family is about.

"After a year of the Sussexes’ ‘crossing lines’ and smashing norms, all these phrases have necessarily been deployed so many times that, as 2021 putters along, they’ve become a tad shopworn."

Ms Elser goes on to say Harry and Meghan's next move isn't a "philanthropic endeavour" because the couple "would have told us" if it were and believes.

She writes: "Let’s be honest about what in all likelihood lies at the heart of this move.

"Cash. And lots and lots of it potentially."

The Mirror estimated that gig could be worth somewhere between $900,000 and $3.6 million, although neither BetterUp or the Duke have released details.

The expert adds that Prince Harry’s new job is not a "natural progression" of the multi-million dollar deals he and his pregnant wife signed with Spotify and Netflix.

Instead, Ms Elser writes: "We get it – truly. The Sussexes like, and maybe need, cash to keep their whole operation going like every other taxpaying soul. Liking lovely money and wanting more of it does not for a second take away from their ability to effect real change and to help millions of people.

"There is no shame in wanting or simply requiring money. And there is certainly no shame in toddling off to get a job to keep your family afloat."

She adds: "Maybe the real lesson here is that Prince Charles shouldn’t have turned off the money spout quite so vigorously and quite so soon."
