Prince William ‘asked for cousin to separate him and Harry during funeral’

Prince William reportedly asked for Peter Philips to walk between him and Prince Harry during Prince Philip's funeral procession – before seemingly sharing a moment of reconciliation after the service.

The Duke of Edinburgh's death has come at a time of upheaval for the Royal Family, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex making accusations of racism and a lack of support against their family in their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview.

Tensions between the brothers appeared to ease after the funeral, with William and Harry leaving the service shoulder to shoulder.

However, before the ceremony, William did not want to walk with his brother and asked for their cousin Peter Phillips to stand between them, reports the Daily Mail.

The grandchildren were separated by Peter, the son of Princess Anne, as they walked behind the coffin at Windsor Castle on Saturday, April 16.

Harry flew into the UK from his home in California for the funeral but he apparently received “a great deal of frostiness” from some members of his family in the wake of his explosive interview.

It means he could be heading straight back to the US without any reconciliation with his family, with Prince Andrew said to be "the only one" who has expressed any sympathy.

The source said: “As far as the others are concerned, there is a deep sense of protection towards the Queen and resentment towards Harry.

“There is little sympathy for him after what he and Meghan said on Oprah.”

Ahead of the funeral, Peter was seen hanging back slightly allowing Harry and William to walk at the same pace.

The funeral is the first time in more than a year that the brothers have seen each other in person after Harry moved to the US and the pandemic stopped international travel.

Buckingham Palace has been contacted for a response.
