A British F35 jet has crashed into the Mediterranean while flying as the pilot ejected from the jet.
The jet was from the HMS Queen Elizabeth with the incident occurring during a routine exercise this morning.
Although the pilot ejected from the jet, it has been confirmed that the pilot is safe and now back on the HMS Queen Elizabeth.
It is believed that this is the first incident of its kind to happen to a jet from the UK's flagship aircraft carrier.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: "A British F35 pilot from HMS Queen Elizabeth ejected during routine flying operations in the Mediterranean this morning.
"The pilot has been safely returned to the ship and an investigation has begun, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
