Monster fish ‘the size of a baby giraffe’ feeds hundreds at seafood restaurant

A popular seafood spot in Hull has shared behind the scene photos of a whopping fish set to serve “hundreds” of guests.

The Humber Street showed off a monstrous halibut which is the same weight as a baby giraffe.

The giant catch arrived in the kitchen this week and is a hefty 131 pounds, with a head the weight of a stone, Hull Live reports.

The halibut was imported from Scotland and arrived at the kitchen counter with a rope still hooked around its angry-looking face.

The thick white fish is a popular choice amongst customers at the riverside restaurant and is either served with olive oil atop shellfish ragout, with a side of potatoes, or the bones and head going into soups and other dishes.

This one fish will provide weeks of halibut for Humber Fish Co, with the next on order in around three weeks.

On Twitter the restaurant said: "Amazing halibut today. Thanks to Hodgson Fish and the chaps who caught this beauty."

Owner and head chef James Stockdale said: "I just follow what my suppler is doing and keep regularly updated with what is coming in so I can get what I want – we plan in advance.

"We have had such an amazing since sharing our giant halibut. People have gone mad for it.

"The funny thing is we also have a mural on our wall of someone who caught a fish this size generations ago, which just goes to show the tradition lives on."
