Missing boy’s mum fears he met someone playing PS5 who ‘gained his trust’

Missing Richard Okorogheye's mum fears her son met someone through Playstation 5 who "gained his trust" and was "waiting for him".

The 19-year-old vanished on March 22 after telling his mum Evidence Joe he was going to meet his friends.

Richard, who had been shielding due to sickle cell disease, previously told Evidence that he had been struggling in lockdown but was reportedly in good spirits the last time he spoke to his mother.

Speaking on Sky News, Evidence said her son’s disappearance is a shock and said she believes Richard "went to meet somebody," claiming that he had been "talking to someone".

The distraught mum said: "I'm shocked. I'm shocked he even knows where Loughton is, as I don't even know where that place is.

"I think he went to meet somebody. Definitely. Richard cannot go there. Especially at that time in the morning… someone was waiting for Richard."

When asked if she thinks Richard met someone online, Evidence said "most definitely," adding that her son would often be playing on his Playstation.

She added that Richard may have been talking to someone who gained his trust and that he was "fond of," giving him "confidence" to confide in them about his struggles.

Evidence said: "Definitely, he was talking to someone. Someone that he trusted and was fond of. Maybe the person gave him confidence.

"Somehow knew his aspirations, his interests, so he confided in that person, built confidence and trust."

The teen, who attended Oxford Brookes University, disappeared on March 22 after leaving his home in Ladbroke Grove, West London.

Richard was then seen walking in Kensington at around 8.40pm, with further footage showing him in the area of Epping Forest hours later.

Police have established Richard took a taxi to Loughton in Essex and are not working on tracing his steps after this sighting.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicki Beecher, from the Met's Area West Public Protection Unit, appealed for anyone with information of Richard's whereabouts to come forward.
