According to reports, some residents of Florida’s Palm Beach region are pushing against Mr Trump’s return to the area after his presidency ends.
The New York Times has claimed that a lawyer of one nearby resident has argued Mr Trump cannot live at the Mar-a-Lago because it “is a social club”, citing an agreement they said was signed in 1993.
Palm Beach officials have said they will not get to work on the matter until they know for sure that Mr Trump intents to live there.
The President said in a November 2019 tweet that he would be making “Palm Beach, Florida, our permanent residence,” though he did not specify Mar-a-Lago in that statement.
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner have reportedly bought a property, also in Florida, worth $30 million.Located on an island near Miami, the property is described in a real estate listing as “one of the most exclusive and private neighbourhoods in the world”.
It is said to have its own country club, golf course, and even a 24/7 armed security patrol.
The move towards Florida for the Trump family marks a move away from New York, where they had resided prior to the presidency.
