A lorry has smashed into a bridge on the M6 closing the motorway in both directions for four hours.
The crash happened between junctions 26 and 27 near Parbold and Wigan shortly after 12pm.
According to LancashireLive police, paramedics, fire crews and highways officers have all been called to the scene on motorway.
There are also reports that the Air Ambulance has attended to assist with any injuries.
The closure has been put in place across both southbound and northbound carriageways as emergency services attend.
A Lancashire Police Force Incident Manager told LancsLive: “North West Motorway Police are leading this incident. We have closed the bridge over junction 27 as a precaution.
“It’s a HGV that’s collided with a bridge. We are supporting North West Motorway colleagues.”
It is understood that as many as two vehicles may have been involved in the incident with debris strewn across the motorway.
