Just one in ten bids put to refugees Homes for Ukraine scheme approved, damning statistics reveal

JUST one in ten bids put in to the refugees Homes for Ukraine scheme have been approved, damning statistics out today reveal.

Only just over 2,000 have so far been rubber stamped by officials — despite 150,000 generous Brits offering their homes to those fleeing Mad Vlad’s bullets and bombs.

Around 25,000 desperate families have been matched up with homes in the UK, but are waiting for visas and paperwork to be signed off.

Lib Dem MP Alistair Carmichael blasted: “The Conservatives are offering only red tape and delays.

“The response has been appallingly slow and chaotic, leaving thousands of Ukrainians in limbo.”

No 10 said: “The Home Office is working flat out to streamline processes while maintaining vital security checks.”

Luke Tryl, UK Director, More in Common blasted: “The huge scale of public generosity for refugees has consistently been ahead of the Home Office.

“The Homes for Ukraine scheme gives the government a chance to match the public mood and we hope all this goodwill doesn’t go to waste.”

Last night Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed he was matched up with a Ukrainian family – but was still waiting for them to come to the UK.

He said: “We're waiting for that family to arrive, we hope in the near future.
