Ghislaine Maxwell ‘should be jailed for 55 years’ for underage sex trafficking

Socialite and sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell should be jailed for up to 55 years – and be given a minimum term of 30 years, according to prosecutors.

The attempt by prosecutors to cage Maxwell for such a long term was made in written arguments to a judge in New York on Wednesday.

It follows the sex fiend’s conviction for her role in the abuse of teenage girls over a 10-year period by former boyfriend and high-flying financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Maxwell – who is likely to die in prison if she gets 30 years or more – has asked the court for a much more lenient sentence of just over four years, and she says she’s being made a scapegoat for Epstein’s crimes.

Epstein himself died of an apparent suicide in prison while awaiting trial, meaning he never faced justice – although he’d already been convicted of underage sex offences years earlier.

According to the Mail Online, prosecutors said the lengthy term would reflect the US federal government’s sentencing guidelines.

Maxwell, 60, was found guilty on five of six counts last year, including sex trafficking of a minor, transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and three counts of conspiracy. The youngest victim was just 14.

The convictions came after a trial which heard harrowing testimony from four women who said they were abused during their teens.

Maxwell’s defence team last week told the judge she should have a much shorter sentence.

Their filing stated:”'Ms Maxwell has always worked hard. Her many educational, occupational, and vocational accomplishments include becoming an emergency medical technician, a helicopter pilot, a submersible pilot, a banker, partnering with the Cleveland Clinic to establish a telemedicine platform to enable people in remote areas to obtain quality medical treatment, helping develop the Clinton Global Initiative, and supporting a variety non-profit and charitable organisations.”

But the prosecution team has now countered those arguments. Their filing states that Maxwell played an “instrumental role in the horrific sexual abuse of multiple young teenage girls” – and they called her actions “monstrous”.

The filing added: “As part of a disturbing agreement with Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell identified, groomed and abused multiple victims, while she enjoyed a life of extraordinary luxury and privilege.

"In her wake, Maxwell left her victims permanently scarred with emotional and psychological injuries.

“That damage can never be undone, but it can be accounted for in crafting a just sentence for Maxwell´s crimes.”
