The man, believed to be in his 20s, reportedly fell onto rocks at Sa Foradada in the beautiful Tramuntana mountain range.
He is thought to have fallen around 60 feet having been climbing with a friend who was unhurt.
Firefighters and Civil Guard mountain rescue crews have been working to recover his body following the tragedy around 2.30pm on Thursday.
A police helicopter has been mobilised to try to help in the operation.
The Serra de Tramuntana are the dramatic mountains skirting the length of Majorca’s northern coast.
Sa Foradada, in the municipality of Deia which is a favourite holiday spot for the likes of Sir Bob Geldof, is a small peninsula which offers one of the most outstanding viewpoints in the area.
A restaurant is perched high overlooking the distinctive rock formation at the end of Sa Foradada.
It is popular for nature lovers of all kinds, including hikers and bird watchers.
