A toddler has died after being found unresponsive at a nursery in south London.

The three-year-old tot was discovered motionless at the Little Learners Nursery in Croydon last Thursday.

The youngster was found lying on a piece of play equipment in the garden, Mail Online reports.

Police and an air ambulance were scrambled to the school at around 2.30pm but the boy tragically died just over an hour later in hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing a large emergency services presence at the nursery following the incident, with several police vehicles and ambulances in attendance.

It has been reported that part of the nursery's play area was cordoned off while police carried out enquiries.

It is understood the boy suffered a cardiac arrest, the London Ambulance Service said.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "The deceased's family are aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Enquiries continue."

A spokesman for the London Ambulance service told My London: “We were called at 2.35pm to reports of a cardiac arrest in Haling Park Road, Croydon.

"We dispatched a clinical team leader, two ambulance crews, a medic in a fast response car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took them to hospital.”
