Beauty salon boss let gangsters grow cannabis in her loft as she 'needed the money to pay for dad's funeral'

A BEAUTY salon boss let gangsters grow cannabis in her loft — claiming she needed money to pay for her father’s funeral.

Chareen Millward, 30, said the crooks installed irrigation and ventilation systems, lighting and bypassed the electricity supply to her home.

She was paid to water the £12,000 crop and used the cash for her father Mark’s funeral.

In a statement to police, former wrestler Millward said: “I found out my father was terminally ill, I had financial problems.

“I approached some people I knew would help.

“They installed all the equipment and, in return for letting them grow they would cover the cost of my father's funeral.

"All I had to do was top up the water. I have never been involved in growing cannabis before.

“It was out of desperation, I have never harvested or sold cannabis. I am truly sorry for what I have done.

The operation was discovered when police investigating a burglary raided the mum of one’s home in Bolton.

Millward admitted producing cannabis and got a two-year community order at Bolton crown court.

She must do 100 hours of unpaid work.
