Armed man shot by police in Colorado Springs dies at a local hospital

An armed man who was shot by police in Colorado Springs died Sunday in a local hospital.

Ahmad Akeem Abdul Muhammad, 30, was shot on Thursday after officers responded to a report of a man firing a handgun into an occupied vehicle in the 1600 block of South Nevada Avenue, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the vehicle that was shot at fled the area.

Officers contacted Muhammad at Hunter Avenue and South Corona Avenue, according to a news release, and the suspect pointed a firearm at officers.

“At least one of the officers shot at least one round at the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said. The suspect fled on foot with officers in pursuit.

In the 1700 block of South Wahsatch Avenue the suspect “again pointed his weapon at officers,” the release said, when he was shot by “at least one of the officers.”

No officers or community members were injured. Six officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per police department policy.
