Zoe was the face of It Takes Two for 10 years, having previously been a contestant on the main programme, Strictly Come Dancing. The TV presenter spoke with hundreds of contestants over the years about their performances and welcomed some A-list guests to the BBC studios. However, she has now been replaced by professional dancer Janette Manrara and will not be returning. Here is everything you need to know.
Why is Zoe Ball not presenting It Takes Two?
Earlier this year, Zoe announced the heart-wrenching news she was leaving her role as host of the spin-off show.
It came at the same time her former professional dancing partner and co-star Ian Waite revealed he also wouldn’t be returning.
During her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show, she explained: “I had to say it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, walking away from it.”
“I love that show, you know how obsessed I am with Strictly. But after 10 years, sometimes you’ve got to give yourself some new challenges.”
The mother of two also said she wanted to spend more time with her daughter as she felt she was missing her growing up.
In an Instagram post, she also thanked those who have been a part of her journey as host of the programme.
She wrote: “I will continue to support the Strictly family on the Breakfast Show and I can’t wait to watch the Class Of 2021 from my sofa.
“Huge love and grateful thanks to Tess [Daly] and Claudia [Winkleman] and the whole Strictly clan, the It Takes Two fans, my Glam Squad, Eve Winstanley, Alex McLeod, the BBC Two gang and of course the best telly crew ever.
“I will miss you all immensely. As Iveta would say ‘Friends for the life’,” she concluded and in June, it was announced Janette would be taking her spot.
One of the hardest decisions
Having been a professional dancer on the show for eight years, Janette decided she wanted to pursue a new challenge.
Explaining her decision to fill Zoe’s shoes, the dancer said on The One Show: “One of my favourites parts of doing Strictly was always to sit down on that couch and just chat away.
“That was fun and I remember meeting Zoe and thinking, ‘This is the coolest job ever. You get to sit down and talk about dancing and make people feel good’.
“I did say, ‘One day I would love to do that’, and here we are,” she said, with the dancer making her debut on Monday night’s edition of It Takes Two.
Janette sat alongside her co-host Rylan Clark to speak with some of the contestants who performed on Saturday night.
The dancer is no novice when it comes to presenting as she has hosted BBC’s Morning Live on several occasions.
Therefore, it was a natural fit for her to take on the reins and in the coming weeks, she and Rylan will share hosting duties.
It is likely Janette will take the shows Zoe used to host from Monday through to Wednesday and her co-host will take the rest of the slots.
Taking to Twitter, viewers were balled over by Janette’s professionalism, with Diamond writing: “Decided to give #ItTakesTwo a look. Janette is good at this and prefer her in this role to being a pro-teacher.”
Georgina added: “Good to have you back guys, welcome Janette. Will miss you on the dance floor but great to see you presenting It Takes Two. Going to be a great season, the best time of the year.”
Joyce commented: “@JManrara Hope you enjoyed your first #Ittakestwo Janette. Wishing all the best for the rest of the series. Enjoy.”
“Janette fab but still miss @ZoeTheBall on #ItTakesTwo,” Holly remarked on the social media platform.
Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two continues weeknights at 6:30pm on BBC Two.
