Horrid abuser Kel (Joseph Alessi) groomed Paul when he was just 14 years old, and the paedophile had such a hold over Paul that he believed for years that their encounter was consensual.

Who plays Paul’s therapist in Coronation Street?

Dean Smith will be appearing as councillor Andy, who will help Paul come to terms with his traumatic past.

Soap fans will probably recognise Andy from the likes of Hollyoaks, in which he played D.S. Yates for 25 episodes between 2018 and 2019, and from Last Tango in Halifax, in which he played William from 2015 until 2016.

He was also a regular fixture in Waterloo Road from 2009 until 2010 as Phillip Ryan.

On top of that, he’s appeared in the likes of Doctors, Casualty, Snatch (the TV series), The Great Train Robbery and, most recently, Still Open All Hours.

The next episode of Coronation Street will air tonight at 7:30pm on ITV.
