Rick and Morty season five is on the way to Adult Swim and fans are keen to see the adult animation return. The fourth season came to an end in May 2020, so viewers have been waiting a long time for new episodes. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about when the fifth season will arrive.

When is Rick and Morty season 5 out?

Rick and Morty is a hilarious animated comedy series with Justin Roiland voicing the two title characters.

The fifth season will continue to follow the adventures of the grandfather and grandson duo, who split their time between home life and interdimensional travels.

In May 2018 a long-term deal was struck and it included a 70-episode order across multiple seasons.

The fifth season will make its debut on June 20, but it is not known how many episodes will be included.

The premiere will air on Adult Swim at 11/10c and a new trailer has been released.

The trailer shows Rick and his family running through a dark forest when he gets into an argument with granddaughter Summer (Spencer Grammer).

Jerry (Chris Parnell) also announces that a “strange, horny ocean man” has turned up on his front lawn.

Whilst on one of their wild adventures, Rick tells his family it is “time to raise a little hell”.

The family can also be seen ziplining through futuristic metallic tunnels.

Fans have already shared their thoughts on the action-packed trailer, with one saying: “Damn Jerry’s in a lot of these adventures, and everyone isn’t actively ignoring him anymore.”

Another said: “Season 5 is probably the whole Smith family going on an adventure together.”

Usually, Morty is roped into joining Rick on his wild adventures, but the upcoming season will see everyone facing trouble.

One viewer said: “It seems like there’s gonna be more family adventures in this season.”

The official Twitter account for Rick and Morty shared the trailer with the message: “Now you can start asking us about season 6. Rick and Morty returns for season 5 on Sunday, June 20 at 11pm ET/PT on @adultswim.”

Sadly there is no indication of when the series will be added to Netflix.

Hopefully, there will be less of a wait for the new series to arrive, so fans elsewhere will finally have access.

One fan said: “Not gonna lie this season came around pretty quick. Their production teams must’ve gotten even bigger, like as if it wasn’t already insane enough.”

At this moment in time, there is no knowing whether the fifth season will be split into two parts.

Fans were frustrated with the season four episode schedule, as the first five episodes began in November 2019.

The final five did not air until six months later, so there should be a smaller gap between episodes this time.

Viewers are even more excited for the new season as fan-favourite character Jerry is given a bigger role.

One said on Twitter: “Rick and Morty season 5 leaning into more plots with the family together is exactly what we need.

“Hope we get more interesting combinations like another Rick and Jerry plot.”

Another added: “Wirly Dirly Conspiracy is a top tier Rick and Morty episode just because of the Jerry and Rick dynamic.”

Rick and Morty season 5 airs on Adult Swim from June 20.
