Luke Bracey and Emma Roberts star across from one another in the Netflix original rom-com, The Holidate. The film follows two strangers who hate the drama, parental nudging, unbearable expectations, and more that come with being single during the holidays. Thus, they decide to be each other’s plus-ones for the foreseeable future — on all the holidays (minor and major).
From Thanksgiving to New Year’s and Valentine’s Day, the two embark on a plutonic mutual agreement to keep each other company on holidays only. Yet, as would be expected, feelings throw a wrench in the otherwise perfect plan. While The Holidate is a bit predictable and falls victim to the very tropes it pokes fun at, it’s a feel-good movie with just enough star power to satisfy.
Roberts is well known for her turns in American Horror Story, Scream Queens, We’re the Millers, Nerve, and more. The film also features Kristen Chenoweth as a naughty aunt who gives her niece (Roberts) the holidate idea. And, as for the leading man, Luke Bracey, he has appeared in a handful of memorable productions. So, what is Bracey most famous for?
Luke Bracey starred in 2014’s ‘The Best of Me’
In 2014, Bracey appeared in The Best of Me with James Marsden, Michelle Monagan, Liana Liberato, and more. The film followed Dawson and Amanda — alternating between their relationship in the 1990s and their separate lives in the present. Bracey played the young version of the male protagonist in the romantic drama based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name.
As is the case with many Sparks novels turned into movies, the movie was condemned for its heavy-handedness and melodrama. Critics argued that it was hard to take the movie seriously as “accidents” seemed to happen a little too frequently. Yet, Sparks fans love a movie that pulls at their heartstrings (even if they do so with a bit too much force).
Bracey also starred in 2015’s ‘Point Break’
The Point Break remake starring Bracey and Edgar Ramirez did not premiere to the same critical success as its predecessor, which starred Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze as Johnny Utah and Bodhi respectively in 1991.
In the remake, Bracey plays FBI Agent Utah. He infiltrates a team of extraordinary athletes who pull off unprecedented, life-threatening heists. As for the leader of the group, Ramirez plays Bodhi.
Bracey starred in 2016’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’
In 2016, Bracey appeared in the war drama Hacksaw Ridge, alongside Andrew Garfield, who played the main character. The true story followed Private First Class Desmond T. Doss (Garfield) who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms on religious grounds during World War II. He gained respect and admiration after risking his life to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa without firing a shot. Bracy portrayed Smitty Ryker — one of the soldiers in the war with him.
