'WandaVision': Should Vision Come Back to Life? Fans Can't Seem to Agree

Although several series on ABC and Netflix tried to make their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’ve done so with minimal involvement from the film canon.

On Disney+, however, a new slate of Marvel shows will directly tie into the world’s most popular film franchise, with several key members of the cast headlining their own projects.

The first of these projects, WandaVision, brings back a presumed character in Avengers: Infinity War.

Vision in the MCU

Vision has been in the Marvel universe since the first film. While he was not yet the superhero that he is by when Infinity War came around, Vision began as Tony Stark’s helpful AI servant JARVIS.

Voiced by Paul Bettany, JARVIS helped Star guide himself through battles as a digital assistant on steroids. He drove weapons systems and kept schedules in order.

JARVIS became as part of the Marvel universe as Tony Stark himself. However, when the second Avengers movie, Age of Ultron, came around, JARVIS took on a brand new form. Ultron came to be as a computer virus gone awry. When his tyranny affected the human race’s fate, the Avengers did the unthinkable and gave JARVIS a physical body with the Mind Stone.

He was no longer just a digital assistant. He was a living, breathing synthetic human. Not only that, he was among the group’s most powerful characters. JARVIS was a cross between a man and a computer. As the universe moved on, however, he developed a relationship with Scarlet Witch. The two became an item, but when Thanos took the Mind Stone from Vision’s body, he became one of the film’s many casualties.

Leading into WandaVision, Vision was presumed dead, even getting a video obituary in Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, with WAndaVision due to premiere, it appears that Vision is back from the dead. That is, unless a fan theory proves correct.

What is ‘WandaVision’?

WandaVision is part of an attempt to bring the MCU to devices across the world and expand on the more experimental aspects that the comic books entail. The series is an apparent retelling of a popular Vision comic series in which the not-quite-human superhero tries to live a relatively everyday suburban life.

Both Bettany’s Vision and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch are headlining the Disney+ series, which tries to capture the golden age of television through a heavily Marvel lens. While little is known about Vision’s resurrection, the show’s trailer confirms that he was presumed dead after the events of Infinity War and Endgame.

How he came back to life, however, is anybody’s guess. Fans on Reddit theorized that the Marvel favorite’s apparent resurrection might not be what it seems, however.

With Scarlett Witch’s psychic powers and a universe where nothing is as it seems, could Vision be a mere figment of Wanda’s imagination?

How is Vision resurrected?

Reddit was on the case of how a dead character could come back to life. The Marvel universe has always been creative when it comes to making dead characters come back. Still, Vision’s death was an emotional ending to one of the most significant cinematic events in Hollywood’s history. While some theorize that Vision was properly copied in Infinity War before his death, some feel that the new series could be a reality set in Wanda’s head.

Speaking on the importance of getting a proper answer, Reddit user phantom_avenger gave their thoughts on how it could be best utilized.

“I am hyped to see more of Vision and explore areas of him we didn’t get to see in the MCU films before this miniseries, but I feel like if he was revived it would ruin the impact his death had in Infinity War and on Wanda’s character development.

I feel like this show should focus on how Wanda is still not over the trauma of not only losing but having to watch Vision die twice, and we explore how she’s dealing with it and moving on from it especially if this reality she creates causes major damage to the universe.

EDIT: Plus it feels a little repetitive with how there are already other characters that died in Infinity War that are being revived through alternate versions of themselves, with Loki & Gamora being big examples.”

Whether this helps explain why Vision is alive or the makers have a few more tricks up their sleeves, fans can find out the proper answer when the show premieres in late 2020.
