Tipping Point began with host Ben Shephard, 46, welcoming another four contestants to the game show in the hopes one of them would walk away with the £10,000 jackpot prize. One of the top contenders for the day was player Carter, who seemed to have the edge over his opponents. However, when he was asked which Hollywood star played political strategist Dominic Cummings, 49, in a televised drama, ITV viewers were scratching their heads over who he put forward.

The moment came when remaining players Carter and Sonia were battling each other to get the coveted spot in the final round.

Sonia was asked by Ben: “Which actor plays Vote To Leave campaign director Dominic Cummings in Channel 4 2019 film, Brexit: The Uncivil War?”

As she didn’t know the answer, the player decided to give Carter the chance to guess who the celebrity in the role could be.

With no knowledge on the subject, the latter opted to go with former Peaky Blinders star Tom Hardy, 43, and it was revealed he was incorrect.

Ben informed him the actor who played the political figure was Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, 44.

This meant Sonia secured the counters in play but those watching at home were perplexed by Carter thinking Tom could have played Mr Cummings.

Taking to Twitter, one avid viewer sarcastically wrote: “Ah yes, Tom Hardy, clearly Dominic Cummings body double #tippingpoint.”

Another also joked on the social media platform: “Tom Hardy looks just like Dominic Cummings, uncanny #tippingpoint.”

Whilst a third fan of the show remarked: “#tippingpoint Tom Hardy as Dominic Cummings. Would pay good money to see that.”

Unfortunately, despite passing the question over to Carter who guessed incorrectly, Sonia was knocked out of the game.

The latter’s opponent stormed ahead with £1,350 in his jackpot whereas she was down by £100 with a jackpot of £1,250.

This meant it was Carter who got to play for the star counter in the final round of the show as he went on to answer more questions from various topic areas.

As the concluding round commended, the contestant continued to add more and more money to his jackpot prize.

Unfortunately, by the time it came to the end of the round, Carter hadn’t managed to push the star counter over the edge of the tipping point.

He told Ben he would rather take the money he had than gamble and lose everything so he left with £3,000 in his back pocket.

Taking to Twitter, viewers reacted to the result with one fan posting: “Carter had a great day #TippingPoint.”

Another added: “#tippingpoint Nevertheless well done Carter, well done! A good afternoon’s work and £3k to spend.”

This was another repeat episode as the host of the show explained earlier this week new instalments will start airing from Monday.

Taking to Twitter, the presenter shared a trailer clip for the new series and wrote: “Can’t wait for the new series of Tipping Point to launch.

“Due to a schedule change the new eps will now air next week Monday 19th April at 4pm, but here’s a cheeky look at some of what’s to come.

“Also the first few eps were filmed pre-covid so there will be #Benhugs (a least for a while!) #TippingPoint @TippingPointITV.”

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
