This Morning viewers were left in tears on Tuesday (June 22) when a competition segment suddenly became very emotional. Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were hosting the ITV daytime show and gave Alison Hammond the task of surprising a viewer with the chance to win some money. And the reason why she needed the cash touched those at home.
Alison was presenting a segment called Dosh on your Doorstep on This Morning today and surprised fan Heather Bone by turning up outside her home.
The presenter asked: “Well Heather there’s a really important reason why you want this money today, what is that reason?”
Heather explained: “Well I got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, I then got the all-clear just before my 40th birthday and thought things were getting back to normal and then I got told I had brain mets.
“So now I’m getting myself organised, I’ve been told I’ve got three months to live and now I’m going to have a ‘wake me up before I go go party.’
“So it’s sort of a party before my passing,” she added.
Alison asked: “How do you continue to be upbeat for your sons and your husband?”
Heather replied: “Because there is no point moping, it is what it is, if I mope it won’t help my family, my husband or my children. So I am in auto-mode at the moment.”
Heather’s cancer story touched many viewers at home, who took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One viewer tweeted: “Wow. That was emotional. Well done Heather. Hope she has the best party. #ThisMorning at its best there”.
“What a brave and lovely lady Heather is, her attitude is uplifting and very inspiring..” another wrote.
A third viewer added: “#ThisMorning well that’s me in tears what a beautiful soul. Sending lots of love to Heather”.
“Am crying with joy #thismorning Heather, have a great birthday if youre reading this. Lots of love sent and take care. Xxxxx,” commented a fourth This Morning fan.
Alison began the Dosh on your Doorstep quiz with Heather live on-air while they stood out in front of her house.
Heather won a total of £1,000 in prize money for her party planning.
After congratulating Heather on her win, Holly and Phillip then revealed they had another surprise in store for her.
They added a bonus £1,000 to Heather’s fund and had a special message from Heather’s favourite singer Craig David for her upcoming birthday.
Heather was overcome with emotions as she watched the video clip of Craig wishing and singing her a happy birthday.
Alison revealed Heather is incredibly positive about her difficult journey and even shares updates about her cancer story on Instagram @heathers_cancer_journey.
Later in the episode, Holly and Phillip revealed Heather’s Instagram had racked up more than 10,000 more followers since her appearance on This Morning.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
