Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) has struggled to forgive Phil (Steve McFadden) for his part in Dennis Rickman’s (Bleu Landau) demise in EastEnders, but during tonight’s instalment she couldn’t live with the thought of him going to prison, and therefore withdrew her statement, and — later — as Phil confronted her on the matter, they shared a kiss.
Phil returned to Walford during last week’s instalments in an effort to apologise to Sharon for being responsible for Dennis’ death, and — as they argued over the matter — Sharon came to realise that Phil was grieving just as much as she was.
While it appeared that she was starting to forgive him, it became apparent that Phil simply couldn’t forgive himself and, therefore, he handed himself in to the police.
During tonight’s episode, he faced the music, and thus wasted little time in admitting responsibility for Dennis’ demise.
Meanwhile, Ritchie Scott (Sian Webber) informed Ben (Max Bowden) of his dad’s decision — and the young man was adamant that she needed to sort this.
Richie attested to do just that like the icon that she is, but Phil refused her help, and ordered her out of the police station.
Back on the Square, Ben paid a visit to Sharon and asked her to withdraw the statement she gave to the police prior to the boat crash — claiming that his dad has suffered enough.
Sharon did just that, as the police returned and informed Phil that he was free to go — something which left him incredibly confused.
Phil was less than pleased when he heard that Ben had previously had a word with Sharon, and — upon confronting his wife — he questioned what her motive were in having him released.
Sharon reminded him that Dennis thought the world of him, and Phil became incredibly emotional as a result.
She closed the gap between them, and informed him that this had gone on long enough — that she’s lost Denny, but she couldn’t bare the thought of losing him too.
With emotions running high, the pair shared a kiss, before the ‘Doof Doof’ sounded — leaving viewers wondering what will transpire next.
Is a future where Phil and Sharon are together a plausible one after all that’s happened?
Will romance ensue once more?
