Starz series Power Book II: Ghost premiered over the weekend as the first highly anticipated spin-off series from the Power franchise finally hit screens following a temporary halting due to the coronavirus pandemic. The first episode picked things up from the end of the Power series finale with Tasha St Patrick (played by Naturi Naughton) in prison and Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) attending college. Tariq was desperately trying to help Tasha get out of jail after she went down for the murder of James “Ghost” St Patrick (Omari Hardwick).
Why did Tasha name Tommy in court in Power Book 2?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Power Book II: Ghost episode 1
Episode one of Power Book II: Ghost was titled The Stranger and saw Tariq trying to drum up enough cash to get some representation for Tasha.
With some work and the help of social media, Tariq managed to get attorney David Maclean (Cliff “Method Man” Smith) to represent her.
As the hearing seemed to come to an end, Tasha was asked to name the accomplice, who helped her to kill Ghost.
In perhaps her most shocking move to date, Tasha declared she was aided by Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora).
As fans know, Tommy was there the night Ghost was shot but found his brother in arms dying on the floor.
Tommy also knew it was Tariq holding the smoking gun but was told by Ghost to let him go.
Many fans may be wondering why Tasha made such a scandalous move however, actress Naughton has now spoken about this plot twist.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the actress explained Tasha’s lie: “I know, and Tommy was like a brother too, you know, obviously my family.
“But again, my son, it’s either me and Tariq or someone else. I will never give him up, my child.
“So, if it means putting the shift of blame on a friend or family member, like, you know, like Tommy, it is her own.”
Naughton continued: “I think she feels like it is her only option, because at this point, everyone else is dead.
“So, I can’t really blame someone that can’t stand trial. I need them to go find Tommy, bring him back and put him up on that stand. And that’s what I think she’s trying to do.”
The actress added: “Whether that will work or not [that’s] to be determined.”
Naughton went on to tease about whether Tommy would be making a comeback to Power Book II: Ghost and any crossovers with the other spin-offs: “I can’t really tell much about that, because those shows haven’t been written or shown yet.
“But, you know, I can say Tommy is in LA, but LA is just a plane ride away.”
Her words suggest a potential manhunt on Tommy, who was last seen skipping town and heading to the bright lights of the West Coast to start up a new drug enterprise in LA.
Tommy was such an integral character to Power, so it seems highly likely he could be back in the frame.
Whether he can be saved from Tasha’s trial is another matter, but he is likely to be furious at being dragged into a killing which had nothing to do with him.
Along with this, there was a big twist in the tale when former disgraced FBI lawyer Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson) pulled a trump card and wanted Tasha to be tried on Kingpin charges rather than her previous ones of murdering Ghost.
To make matters worse, this new trial carried the death penalty with Tasha’s life now on the line rather than just incarceration.
Fans will have to see whether Tasha is going to end up dead if Saxe has his way with the trial and his last bid to take down the St Patricks.
