The late Adam West was the first actor to play Batman in a live action film. Twilight star Robert Pattinson will soon become the seventh.
West rose to fame when he played Batman/Bruce Wayne in the timeless and iconic Batman television series, which ran from 1966 to ’68. West starred in Batman: The Movie (1966), which was the very first Caped Crusader live action film.
After that, it would be 23 years until such a film hit the big screens again. Michael Keaton then wore the cape and the cowl for Tim Burton’s epic 1989 blockbuster, Batman, which starred Jack Nicholson as the Joker.
Fast forward three decades later. There have now been six different actors to wear the Batsuit in a live action movie. Keaton reprised the role in Batman Returns (1992), before passing it on to Val Kilmer for Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever (1995).
After Kilmer stepped down, George Clooney took on the role in the disappointing Batman & Robin (1997). Eight years later, Christian Bale starred as the World’s Greatest Detective in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins (2005), the first installment in his trilogy.
Ben Affleck then took on Batman for Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), before passing the role down to Pattinson.
Digital Artist House of Mat used some excellent details to depict the new Batman in a West-inspired Batsuit, which you can see below:

Well, that’s certainly a compelling look. Perhaps the mashup will be featured in a Batman video game down the road? Those who played the Batman: Arkham series will recall the many different Batman outfits they could choose from.
The Batman was originally scheduled for a June 2021 release, but production was halted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now scheduled to be released on Oct. 1, 2021.
