Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is set to learn the hard way that Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is not someone you mess with, as she outsmarts her in upcoming Coronation Street scenes.
Viewers will know that Leanne has expressed interest in buying into the bistro. Debbie was open to offers, but she was less than pleased with the one that Leanne and partner Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) had put in.
The businesswoman therefore submitted a counter offer, but Leanne, stunned, told her she could whistle for it!
Next week, Nick and Leanne remain steadfast, refusing to up their offer. Debbie, therefore, takes drastic action in order to make them reconsider, as she sets up a conversation with Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), who she claims is a potential buyer.
Leanne listens in, but guesses it’s all part of a set-up on Debbie’s part. She therefore turns the tables on Debbie, telling her that she has found a cheaper proposition in town!
Debbie is seemingly not chuffed about this development, and one thing leads to another, as Leanne and Nick end up signing on the dotted line, purchasing half the bistro for the price they’d initially offered.
In this clip from next Monday’s (August 16) second episode, Ronnie comes to realise that Debbie was simply toying with him in an effort to make Leanne up her price.
Debbie, meanwhile, admits to what she did, claiming that one must do whatever is necessary in business in order to get what one wants.
‘I’m glad you feel that way,’ replies Leanne, with a smile on her face, ‘That way you can’t complain that we lied to get the price down!’
Debbie, speechless, asks for Leanne to elaborate.
‘There was no cafe bar in the Northern Quarter!,’ added Leanne, much to Debbie’s shock!
‘You ripped me off!’ Debbie exclaims, much to the delight of all the punters in the Rovers.
Coronation Street airs these scenes Monday August 16 at 8:30pm on ITV.
