Margot Robbie Plans Hiatus From Exhausting Role as Harley Quinn

The ‘Suicide Squad’ actress is taking a breather from her DC comic book superhero character after the upcoming release of the James Gunn-directed adaptation.

AceShowbiz -Actress Margot Robbie is taking a break from portraying “exhausting” comic book villain Harley Quinn.

The star has taken on the role of The Joker‘s sidekick in three DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies in the past five years, including 2020’s “Birds of Prey” and the upcoming “The Suicide Squad” – and now she needs a breather.

Margot told Entertainment Weekly, “It was kind of back-to-back filming Birds… and filming this (The Suicide Squad), so I was kind of like, ‘Oof, I need a break from Harley because she’s exhausting.’ “

However, “The Wolf of Wall Street” actress admits she has no idea what DCEU bosses have planned for the future of her character.

Margot said, “I don’t know when we’re next going to see her. I’m just as intrigued as everyone else is.”

“The Suicide Squad”, directed by James Gunn, is a standalone sequel to the 2016 release, “Suicide Squad“, and is set to launch later this summer (21).

Margot Robbie is joined by some of her original co-stars like Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney, but Jared Leto who played her lover in the first film won’t return after he was replaced by Joaquin Phoenix in “Joker“.

Will Smith won’t be back for the upcoming movie either. Meanwhile, Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone, and Peter Capaldi are among the new additions.

The new movie will have a Superman connection as it’s teased in the trailer. It revealed Bloodsport as the one responsible for putting the Man of Steel in hospital.

In an interview, James Gunn said, “Yes, ‘The Suicide Squad’ is a part of the DCEU, but I don’t know which Superman it was because I don’t cast the next Superman. So it could be Henry [Cavill]; it could be somebody else. It’s whoever people decide on other than me.”
