Good Morning Britain host Martin Lewis shared his own personal experience with grief to help Kate Garraway, after she became emotional reading messages from viewers following her NTA win.

Kate, 54, has been celebrating after her win for 'Finding Derek' at the awards, and Charlotte Hawkins, 46, and Martin, 49, heaped praise on the star.

They all read out messages from viewers about what the win meant to them, and Kate became visibly choked up.

Charlotte began saying: "Congratulations, Kate. I mean, we're all so proud. It was just an amazing moment."

"I think everyone who was watching was in tears, so many people have got in touch with messages this morning as well,"

"It meant a great deal to them. Karen says "I was in tears. I lost my mum to COVID on the 18th of April 2020, Kate's speech meant a lot to me and probably the whole world for everybody who has suffered a loss through COVID."

Martin said: "You've got Shelll on Twitter saying Kate, Derek Darcy and Billy our family feel your pain, you are a true inspiration. COVID is rubbish. But we'll get through this."

Tearful Kate said: "Exactly. That's what we have to do. Claire's been in touch with me to say she lost her husband aged 46 just before his 47th birthday, leaving her daughter who is 13. I hope the documentary helps a bit and you're not forgotten. "

"I'm so emotional" she said.

Martin then gave some advice after his own experiences with grief after he shared the experience of losing his mum.

"I saw you during the break with tears in your eyes., reading people's messages."

" I would say to you, I remember when I had never really spoken about it properly, I talked about losing my mum when I was a child on the radio once."

Martin added kindly: "I was swamped with tens of thousands of messages from other people who had lost a parent young over the next few days."
