Jonnie Peacock joins Hollyoaks to help Sid Sumner

Jonnie Peacock will be making a guest appearance in Hollyoaks this week, Metro.co.uk can exclusively reveal.

The Paralympic runner will feature as part of Sid Sumner’s (Billy Price) ongoing storyline.

Sid, who is an amputee, is left in shock during Thursday’s (August 26) edition of the Channel 4 soap, after pal Imran Maalik (Ijaz Rana) signs him up for an online support group.

The teen refuses to attend, but he later reconsiders, joining the virtual meeting, where he ultimately has an inspiring conversation with Jonnie.

Sid, who lost his leg last year after being involved in a car accident, has struggled to come to terms with what happened.

In scenes this week, best friend Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) discovers that he’s been swerving texts from potential love interest Demi.

When she questions him about this, Sid admits that he’s trying to hide his prosthetic leg from Demi. Juliet, however, gives him some advice, and in the end, Sid resolves to go on a date with Demi.

However, his leg is still really hurting, and while awaiting Demi’s arrival in the Hutch, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) points out that there is blood on his trousers.

Sid, horrified, rushes off.

Juliet, desperate to help, arranges lunch for her and Sid, but it turns out to be a set-up, as Sid is surprised to find Demi there instead. The two then sit down and have their date.

Things appear to get off to a good start, but Sid soon discovers that Juliet has told Demi all about his prosthetic leg, and he’s upset.

He lashes out at Juliet, and later revisits the scene of the accident.

Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) tracks him down, and the two have a heartfelt conversation. Juliet, meanwhile, locates him too, and apologises for interfering.

Sid’s friends subsequently rally around him, showing their support, with Imran arranging for him to attend the online group, where he encounters Jonnie.

Jonnie, 28, has won two Paralympic gold medals, as well as gold at the IPC World Championships and IPC European Championships.

He became the first amputee to compete on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. Partnered with Oti Mabuse, he made it all the way to week nine, before being eliminated in a dance-off with Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice.

Jonnie’s appearance in Hollyoaks will air Thursday August 26 at 7pm on E4.
