We’re all super excited for the new season of Veronica Mars, right? Of course you are. And fans of the original series are about to get even more than they anticipated. That’s right, the original series is going to be streaming on Hulu as well. Here’s what we know about its arrival.
Veronica Mars originally aired for three seasons
The neo-noir meets teen dramedy series premiered on UPN nearly 15 years ago, in Sept. 2004. It follows the titular character, a high school student who has picked up a few tricks from her father, a sheriff-turned-private-investigator. She solves mysteries both big and small and offers up plenty of wisecracks while she does so.
Veronica Mars Season 3 was different from its predecessors. UPN was merged with The WB to become the CW and, in addition to airing on a new network, there wasn’t one big season arc. Oh, and Veronica was now in college. These changes weren’t particularly well-received by audiences, and the show was canceled in 2007.
This is the second return of Veronica Mars
Dedicated fans of the series will admit that the third season wasn’t the best, but they still wanted more. And after several years, we finally got it. A Kickstarter-funded campaign led to the 2014 film Veronica Mars, which saw our heroine return to Neptune for her high school reunion — and, naturally, to solve a case.
While die-hard fans loved the flick, it was, decidedly, fan service (it was paid for by them, after all). So after the publishing two companion novels, Rob Thomas and co. were able to bring back the show for an eight-episode limited series, which will begin airing on Hulu on July 26.
When can you watch the old episodes?
Of course we’re excited about the new episodes, but for many of us, it’s been years, if not an entire decade, since we last saw the three original seasons. That’s a lot of catching up to do. Fortunately, this new trailer offers up a pretty good summary of what happened on the show.
Still, if that’s not enough, you’re in luck: Season 1 through 3 of Veronica Mars will be, according to the trailer, available to stream on July 1, 2019. That gives viewers both new and old a few weeks to get caught up (or acquainted) with this world before the new episodes come out. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the movie will be available on Hulu.
Will all of the old cast members come back for Season 4?
Since its announcement, fans have been curious as to who will return for Season 4 of Veronica Mars. Thus far, many have been confirmed: Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace TK), Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas), and more. There are also plenty of new characters.
Here’s what we know about the short revival season: Veronica is back in Neptune, and there’s a disaster afoot (naturally). The beach town has become a spring break destination, and with that comes kidnappings, bomb threats, and all that accompanies a “crime wave,” as Veronica tells the audience in her narration. Get ready for plenty more of the fun, action, and mystery the show does so well.
