Gogglebox hunting for new cast to join show – does your family have what they're looking for?

GOGGLEBOX are hunting for new people to join the show – but does your family have what they're looking for?

Producers of the Channel 4 show are on the lookout for some very particular in mind.

They would like their new cast members to be from Scotland.

The decision comes after MP Pete Wishart created a petition for a Scottish family to be part of the programme.

Back in September Scottish Affairs Committee reviewed how much presence Scotland had within Channel 4.

At the time, chairman of the Scottish Affairs Committee Pete, said: "We are bursting at the seams with talent in Scotland, and I am pleased to hear Channel 4’s efforts to harness this potential.

“A theme which came up in our evidence session was the lack of a Scottish family on Gogglebox.

“It is clear some have approached the channel with similar concern, often offering themselves as an option.

“I am therefore pleased to see a dedicated team tasked with this and look forward to seeing the successful family on our screens in the new series.”

Since then Channel 4’s chief executive Alex Mahon has revealed that a separate budget has been created to help find the perfect family to star in the 19th series early next year.

Gogglebox first aired on our screens back in 2013 and has gone on to become a huge fan favourite with telly lovers.

There has been 18 successful seasons and a number of spin-offs including Gogglesprogs and Celebrity Gogglebox.

They've won 13 prestigious awards over the years, but most recently won a the gong for Factual Programme at the National Television Awards.

Arguably the thing that has made the programme so popular is the amazing cast.

Siblings Peter and Sophie Sandiford, the Malone family and sisters Ellie and Izzi Warner are just a few of the hilarious stars on the show.

Sadly Gogglebox was hit with a number of heartbreaking deaths over the past year.

Mary Cook – who starred on the show alongside best friend Marina Wingrove – tragically died aged 92 surrounded by her family in August.

Days later it was confirmed that her co-star Andy Michael had died at the age of 61, following a short illness.

Their death came just weeks after co-star Pete McGarry died from bowel cancer at home in Essex.
