The Last Kingdom: Netflix tease fourth season of show
Finan is a fan-favourite character in the Netflix series, The Last Kingdom, and he is played by actor Mark Rowley. His character is the best friend of main protagonist, Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), and fans would love to see more of him in season five. There is a chance he may leave the series after the upcoming season, and Express.co.uk has investigated.
Will Finan leave after season 5?
The Last Kingdom is a popular Anglo-Saxon series which is based on a set of novels called The Saxon Stories, by Bernard Cornwell.
The series predominantly follows Uhtred as he is forced to choose between the Saxons and Danes, in terms of his support.
Uhtred met Finan while he was being held as a slave, and Finan indebted himself to Uhtred after the pair managed to escape.
They have since become loyal friends, and Finan has always been there by Uhtred’s side when trouble hits.
Fans have fallen in love with Finan’s character, and he is likely to play an even bigger role in season five – but perhaps not for long.

Viewers are still waiting to find out about Finan’s history, and how he came to leave his homeland in Ireland.
In the books, Finan was exiled from Ireland and was forced into slavery after he ran off with his brother’s wife.
Finan was already married to royalty, but he actually had eyes for his brother Conall’s wife – a dairy maid.
The pair attempted to hide, but they were found out and Finan was forced to leave his home.
Season five is likely to recall the events of Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer. At the end of Warriors of the Storm, Finan challenges his brother Conall to a fight.
He ended up winning against Conall’s champion and took his brother’s crown, which means he may remain in Ireland.
Fans who had read the books will know Uhtred ends up travelling to Ireland to rescue his daughter Stiorra (Ruby Hartley) and Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson).
So it seems Uhtred and Finan will remain together for most of season five, but it is yet to be decided what happens to him next.
Finan’s character appears in all of Cornwell’s books, and he remains alive, so hopefully he will stay part of the TV adaptation in some form or another.
The series is known to have deviated from the books in some ways, so there is a chance he may play a slightly different role.

In the meantime, fans can rest assured more of Finan’s story will be told in the upcoming season five.
The confrontation between Finan and his brother is likely to be a pivotal moment in the new episodes.
Fans have taken to Reddit to express their love for Finan’s character, with one saying they were afraid he would die in season four.
Another said: “The reason why battles have had extra intensity for me is because I don’t want to say goodbye to a character like him. “There’s NO WAY they could kill Beocca and Finan in the same season; fans would be absolutely devastated, and some might want to quit tbh. That’s nearly early GoT levels of bloodthirst [sic].”
Many fans are hoping Finan ends up in a relationship with newcomer Eadith (Stefanie Martini) in the new season.
One said: “Yeah Finan is one of my favourite characters! It’ll be great to see him get his own storyline or maybe go into his backstory a bit like they do in the books.
“What was interesting though was in the finale of season 4 in his last scene he had, Eadith was talking about family and honour, the camera kind of zooms into him as she’s talking. Do you reckon that’s planting the seeds or am I reading way too much into this haha [sic].”
Family and honour will definitely become important to Finan in season five, as he is predicted to return to his brother.
There is a chance he could end up with Eadith along the way, and with the next season in the making, hopefully fans will not have long to wait to find out.
