Emmerdale’s last murder saw businessman Graham Foster (played by Andrew Scarborough) struck down by evil Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather) who was back to seek revenge against his ex-wife Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry). However, with another villager’s time in the Dales soon set to come to an end, some long-term fans of the programme have pointed out a major murder plothole.

The popular ITV soap has aired some epic exits in recent years.

Of course, although many of viewers’ favourite characters get the door kept open for a return, some end up leaving much more permanently.

However, some long-term fans of the continuing drama have spotted a pattern emerging with murders in the Dales.

A fan of the programme on Reddit has noticed the large number of residents who seem to have been killed by being pelted with rocks.

User Rowlies asked: “Rocks are everywhere in Emmerdale… Do you remember any other rocks being involved in crimes on this show?”

The eagle-eyed viewer went onto list a series of incidents involving rocks which saw characters make an untimely exit from the programme.

They continued: “Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) pushed Gemma (Tendai Rinomhota) over and she cracked her head on a rock and died.

“Cain (Jeff Hordley) punched Joe (Ned Porteous) and he fell back and hit his head on a rock.

“Lachlan (Thomas Atkinson) murdered Jerry (Shaun Thomas) with a rock. (debris off the building… the building is made of stone…)

“When Lachlan chased Rebecca (Emily Head) through the woods she tripped and got knocked out by hitting her head on a rock.

“Maya (Louisa Clein) got hit over the head with a rock by Leyla (Roxi Shahidi).

Another user danielroxheaps agreed, commenting: “This goes back to the Emmerdale Farm days. In January 1986, Matt Skilbeck (Robert’s uncle-in-law) pushed Harry Mowlam down a hill and Harry hit his head on a rock, shortly before being murdered by an (initially) unknown assailant.

Emmerdale spoilers: Identity of Malone’s killer unveiled by exit clue? [THEORY]

“Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) first wife, Tricia, was killed on New Years 2004 by debris from The Woolpack.”

It’s likely rocks have often been used as murder objects by bloodthirsty residents in the Dales due to the fact many of killings often take place in the woods or rural areas.

The ITV soap is due to air another on-screen death later this year.

Speaking last night at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards, showrunner Jane Hudson explained who could be in the firing line in the latest murder plot.

However, she admitted fans have not clocked onto who will leave the show in a more explosive fashion this year.

Jane said: “There’s been lots of people trying to guess who’s going to die. Is it Malone, is it Will, is it Harriet?

“Well, all I can tell you is nobody has quite guessed it correctly yet. People have been in the right area, the right region, but they’ve not quite guessed it.

“But it’s very, very soon,” teased the soap boss.

Emmerdale airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
