Emmerdale viewers have been left divided over newcomer DI Mark Malone (played by Mark Womack) as he challenges their beloved bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). While this storyline has just begun, it seems there could be one character who is already ready to make a deal. Could Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) strike lucky with Malone and change sides for the sake of his own safety?
Earlier this year, the actor who played Malone revealed the real reason why his character was in the Dales.
Initially he appeared when he heard a gun – which was meant to be in the safe hands of Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) – had been involved in a shooting.
Upon arriving in Emmerdale, he soon found out the weapon had been passed to Cain, via Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton), who had asked her ex to get rid of it.
But things didn’t work out as planned and Malone soon saw a reason to stick around; there were several residents he could exploit and grow his gang with their involvement.

However, one person who has not been glad about being dragged into his dodgy dealings is Billy.
He has been living in the village for the last couple of years, and those watching at home have seen him turn his life around.
Having been in prison for a year already, Billy is determined not to go back behind bars and has settled into a good job and routine.
But, after starting a relationship with Dawn Taylor (Oliver Bromley), he soon found himself embroiled in illegal activity once mor
He began by advising Dawn’s father, Will, not to get involved with Malone, but in doing so he has only incriminated himself.
In a scene which aired last week, viewers saw Billy give Malone the drugs back which they were meant to transport and deliver to a client.
Will however gave them a tip off they were being set up and they got Dawn to grab the stash so when the police pulled them over, they had nothing to show.
This caused Will to end up hospitalised, and it seems Billy is worrying about his own wellbeing too.

During an exclusive interview with express.co.uk, Mark Womack discussed the possibility of Billy swapping sides.
When asked if he thought Malone would allow Billy to transfer sides the actor said: “Yes, definitely.”
And it seems Malone would be willing to strike a deal as he added: “Absolutely.
“I think Malone would be happy to strike a deal with all of them, as long as he feels he can control what they’ll do.

“That’s what he does; he manipulates people, he gets them under his wing, he promises them things.
“He gives them money – they enjoy the money and he manipulates them.
“The minute they betray him, he has to teach them a lesson, which is exactly what happened to Will,” Mark said.
Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm on ITV.
