EastEnders fans notice awkward mask blunder during Ben armed robbery arrest

Ben Mitchell got arrested during Thursday night's EastEnders, but fans were left distracted by a coronavirus-related blunder.

When Ben (Max Bowden) was taken in by the police, the coppers didn't handcuff or restrain him, instead asking him to just walk into the back of the car, which he did.

On top of that, there wasn't a face covering in sight, which left fans confused, given the rules surrounding masks.

Of course, given the restrictions in filming the soap, the actors weren't allowed to touch, and face masks would limit their acting – but it didn't stop viewers complaining.

One person tweeted: "Do police not supply a mask for arrests then?"

Another wrote: "Ben Mitchell getting arrested for armed robbery and no cuffs? What in the white privilege?"

A third said: "Ben should really be wearing a face covering in the back of that police car."

And someone else commented: "They didn't search or cuff him. Armed robbery."

Ben refused to speak during his interview, but it seems he might be let off anyway if his boyfriend Callum Highway (Tony Clay) has anything to do with it.

Callum's police boss spoke to him after seeing him hiding when Ben was arrested, quickly putting two and two together that they were in a relationship.

He told Callum: "You know you have to declare any relationship with a convicted criminal, you could get the sack. What? It's not a relationship?"

The detective soon brought a deal to the table for Callum, saying: "I've always wanted to nick Hardcastle, but do you know what would make me really smile? Get Phil Mitchell too.

"Ben will do, but Phil… Phil Mitchell. That would make me very happy."

He went on: "You lied to me. Saw ben on that CCTV, said nothing. You lied, covered for your boyfriend, now maybe I could turn a blind eye.

"Maybe you could get lover boy out of the dodge, no charges, make that CCTV disappear."

With Callum interested, the cop went on: "Get me Phil Mitchell. Put him away for good."

Could Callum turn on Phil to keep Ben safe?
