Did Tanya die in EastEnders as 2007 Christmas Day special is repeated?

EastEnders is heading back to one of its most memorable Christmas Day episodes as it delves back into the archives tonight – giving us another chance to see the 2007 festive episode in which Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Max (Jake Wood)’s affair was revealed in truly dramatic fashion.

As well as having devastating consequences for Bradley Branning (Charlie Clements) the news also devastated Max’s wife Tanya (Jo Joyner).

Things got so fraught, in fact, that she ended up falling down the stairs at the end of the episode as she attempted to leave Max for good.

But did Tanya end up dying as a result?

Did Tanya die in EastEnders?

Despite her fall, Tanya lived to fight another day – and to try and get her revenge on Max.

A subsequent storyline saw the character start a relationship with Stacey’s brother Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky), with the pair attempting to bury Max alive in revenge – although Tanya had a chance of heart and ended up freeing him.

She went on to have a relationship with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) – although later returned to Max after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.

They were due to marry again – until Tanya discovered that Max had a secret wife, Kirsty Branning (Kierston Wareing) – and left Walford as a result.

The character was seen during EastEnders’ live anniversary episodes in 2015 (with Joyner being at the centre of the now infamous ‘How’s Adam’ blooper).

However the character was last seen at the start of 2018 after being heavily involved in the festive 2017 storyline which saw Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) fall from the Queen Vic roof after trying to talk Max out of jumping – resulting in Abi’s tragic death.

Viewers later learned that Tanya was in a psychiatric hospital after struggling to cope with losing her daughter.

EastEnders is on BBC One on Tuesday night at 7.30pm.
