Coronation Street favourite Norris Cole is reportedly going to be killed off in dramatic scenes on the ITV soap after actor Malcolm Hebden left in 2017.

According to a source, the cast and crew have filmed the character’s funeral this week, and will see tributes from the likes of stalwart Ken Barlow (Bill Roache), Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and Mary Taylor (Patti Clare).

Malcolm, 81, was reported to be getting written off Corrie back in January.

Norris had been a fixture in Weatherfield ever since his first appearance in 1994.

Since then, the bespectacled man has popped up in more than 1,600 episodes of the longest-running British soap opera.

But in December 2017, the legendary actor unfortunately suffered a heart attack and was forced to depart Corrie.

Producers found a way to keep the hilarious Norris still in the Corrie world as he retired from the Kabin newsagents and moved to an elderly care home called Stillwaters.

He also appeared on the soap temporarily in 2018.

Now an insider has told The Sun that when the actor left the soap, he “made it clear” he wouldn’t be back, prompting a decision from bosses later on to write him out altogether.

“Norris was a huge character for Coronation Street and his funeral will be filled with fun and laughter as well as tears,” the source shared.

“Make no doubt about it, this will be a celebration of all of the best moments Norris had on the cobbles.

“But given his influence and how much he was loved, it is going to be an emotional watch,” they added to the publication.
