BBC Breakfast's Ben Thompson returned to the red sofa as Jon Kay took some time away from the morning show.

Jon usually hosts Monday to Wednesday with his co-host Sally Nugent, but this week he's taken some time away from the show and one of the relief presenters stepped in to host.

Ben was signed up to join Sally on the sofa to kick off the week – and fans were certainly happy to see both of them ready to deliver the daily news.

He returned to air on Tuesday morning (February 14) after first joining on Monday and sharing a behind-the-scenes snap with his temporary co-star.

Ben shared a snap with Sally before going on air on Monday morning as he wrote: "Morning from BBC Breakfast. Our main story: One week from Turkey and Syria earthquake we hear some incredible rescue stories.

"Plus latest on US UFOs, English Channel asteroid, SuperBowl and we'll have some embarrassing pictures of us in the 80s… because (why not emoji). BBC One til 0915."

Fans quickly responded as one user wrote: "Like the photo! Different angle which is great," while another said: "My favourite pair."

In Monday's episode Ben and Sally shared old photos of themselves from the '80s as they went through multiple presenters on the show.

Ben was seen as a young child stroking his cat with a bowl cut while Sally was seen in a denim dress with a full fringe at a young age.

On Tuesday's show the pair were discussing various different topics including the US and earthquakes once again.

It comes as the pair hosted the Valentine's Day show – with Sally dressing for the event.

And Sally wasn't the only one, as Sally sat in her heart-patterned black and red dress, she welcomed Carol Kirkwood onto the show who had also opted for a heart-themed ensemble.

Sally teased: "Carol and I got the same memo – and you clearly didn't! We've gone for the hearts today haven't we Carol?"

Ben added that he's "feeling the love".

Ben is expected to continue appearing on the show to cover Jon's work.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
