Bake Off 2020: Fourth contestant eliminated after bittersweet chocolate week

Sura Selvarajah left Great British Bake Off after the most bittersweet chocolate week, as Lottie Bedlow narrowly made it through to another week in the tent.

Sura became the fourth contestant eliminated from GBBO when she failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

In the latest episode of Channel 4 show, the contestants were tasked with creating deceptively simple 18 chocolate brownies in the signature challenge.

For the technical, they were then asked to make a chocolate babka – with enriched dough, and layers of nuts and chocolate.

Yes, the innuendos were flying.

While a celebration-themed, white chocolate showstopper pushed everyone’s skills to the limit – especially considering the soaring temperatures outside the tent.

However, things didn’t go quite to plan for Sura, who found herself axed eliminated just before the halfway point.

Although fellow contestant Lottie came last in the technical, and was told her brownies were a ‘car crash’, Sura’s raw showstopper sent her home.

‘I’m gutted but, what’s done is done,’ she told the cameras, joking that she hated white chocolate.

‘I’m not going to be bitter about it. I’ve had a great time.’

‘I’m really sad to see Sura go,’ Paul said. ‘Now that’s the classic case of, you cannot have a weakness in your baking if you’re going to win the Great British Bake Off.

‘Unfortunately, we saw Sura’s this week, and it’s that that actually saved Lottie.’

Who was the Star Baker?

Things were a little sweeter for Mark Lutton, who was named Star Baker.

He beat out stiff competition from Dave for the crown after a scrumptious showstopper.

While Hermine got her own honour, giving Prue a ‘Prue-gasm’ with her final bake.

Next week, the bakers return for pastry week – marking the halfway point in the competition.

They will be getting to grips with a strenuous signature, a perplexing technical and an astonishing technical.

And we can’t wait to see what goes down.

Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesdays, at 8pm, on Channel 4.
