Jean, 39, was on hand to help couple Kamlesh and Sukhwinder find a property they could use as a winter home during Thursday’s repeat episode of A Place in the Sun. Having heard the couple’s criteria and demands that they wanted for their home, the Channel 4 presenter was sure they would purchase one of the houses. However, when the guests were left unimpressed by a property in the Alicante region of Spain that contained everything they asked for, the host couldn’t help but express her disappointment at their critique.

First of all, Jean had a discussion with the couple about what they wanted from their winter home and they explained they wanted two bedrooms, a swimming pool and a lot of space for their grandchildren to enjoy.

They also said they wanted to be located within walking distance of local amenities and within five minutes of the beach.

With a budget of £95,000 to play with, the presenter got the search underway and took the couple to property number one.

On the market for £89,000, the house contained two bedrooms and a courtyard garden with a veranda at the front, as well as a smaller patio at the back.

The interior was modern and the location of the property meant the pair would’ve only been 10 minutes away from the beach.

Unfortunately, the smaller size of the home was a downsize and the quaint kitchen didn’t impress the guests one bit.

From this, Jean understood that a good-sized kitchen was also high up the priority list and so she proceeded with viewing number two.

On the market for just over £102,500, the presenter explained that the agent was willing to negotiate an offer that came more within the couple’s budget.

The first-floor apartment had a balcony with views over the communal gardens and a good-sized kitchen which was part of an open plan living and dining area.

It also contained a master bedroom which had an en suite, plus a second bedroom and a bathroom.

By the end of the viewing, the couple said the property was certainly a contender for them, stating they had “good vibes”.

With one house in the bag, Jean proceeded to take the couple to the third viewing, which was a townhouse.

Set over two floors, the property had more than enough space for the husband and wife’s family to come and stay.

The asking price stood at £98,000 but the more traditional look of the kitchen really put the couple off.

As the latter was ruled out, Jean took them to see a fourth property and hoped this one would tick all the boxes.

Unfortunately, it didn’t meet their specifications as they said: “It looks nice, it looks old and traditional.

“But I think it’s tight, the walkways [between the houses],” they continued, adding they felt it was a little closed in.

Hitting back at their criticism, Jean added: “I worked hard to find this one and it does offer a lot for you and your family.

“Also, you’re on the bus route here to Alicante airport so there are good transport links,” she protested as she tried to sell the dream of the house.

As the pair went off to view the home regardless, the rather deflated presenter told the camera: “I’ve managed to deliver on most of the criteria but I just don’t think they’re feeling it.”

And it turns out she was right as the pair said they weren’t going to take the property.

Jean had to try and claw back a few points with property number five and she certainly did as instantly, the couple were amazed.

The property contained a large roof terrace with views towards the sea, an open-plan living and dining room.

It also had a kitchen, a utility room, a master bedroom with an en suite shower room, as well as two more bedrooms and a bathroom.

Located within a 10-minute walk to the beach, the pair seemed to give the best reaction they had all episode.

However, with two of the houses being a contender to buy, the couple needed the night to sleep on their decision.

Meeting up with Jean the next day, they thanked her for all her efforts and explained they had chosen to pursue property five.

Unfortunately, they told the host they were not going to put an offer in or even tell the agent they had an interest.

The presenter finished by stating the only advice she would give to them is not to wait too long to put an offer in on a place they really like.

Brining the episode to a close, the host explained the husband and wife had not yet bought a winter home in the Alicante region of Spain.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
