Matt Chapman tips: I've picked out a cracking 10-1 shot on day four of Glorious Goodwood | The Sun

JOHN LEEPER has already won the Glorious Stakes twice.

But today it’s the horse, rather than the former top trainer, who hopes to take centre stage at Glorious Goodwood!

It was, of course, John Leeper Dunlop who landed this afternoon’s Group 3 in 1983 and 1994 respectively with Seymour Hicks and Duke Of Eurolink.

The horse John Leeper, trained by the late, great trainer John Leeper’s son, Ed, is out to do so for the first time — and it’s not impossible!

As a three-year-old, John Leeper looked a star offspring of Frankel, hacking up in the Listed Fairway Stakes at Newmarket.

As a result, he was sent off at just 8-1 for Adayar’s Derby but only beat two home under Frankie Dettori and it’s fair to say after that the wheels fell off.

However, there have been signs of revival this term with two recent seconds at York over a mile and six furlongs.

The Leeper has begun to settle and he might now be about to fulfil that early promise.

I’m going to risk having a few quid each-way.

ITV Racing gets under way with a handicap over an extended two and a half miles.

SUPER SUPERJACK (1.50) is not well handicapped but might well have been gagging for this trip on the Flat.

The Milton Harris-trained runner stayed on well at York two runs ago over an extended two miles and has a lovely racing weight of 8st 4lb under Kieran O’Neill.

The Moore family love a winner at Goodwood and Make My Day can run a big race in the Goshen colours. He was well beaten at Royal Ascot but this is easier and previous form gives him a big shout.

Group 3 company next with the Thoroughbred Stakes for three-year-old over a mile and BERKSHIRE SHADOW (2.25) can get back to winning ways.

Andrew Balding’s runner was second in the Vintage Stakes here this time last year and ran a cracker in the St James’s Palace when a close sixth to Coroebus.

He was beaten in Listed class last time but this looks an ideal opportunity to get his head in front.

In the handicap over a mile SINJAARI (3.00) has a huge weight but stays on 105, despite a win at Sandown last time.

He has a better draw than many of the of the other leading contenders. Kieran Shoemark rides for Harry and Roger Charlton and the pair did really well when fifth behind Dark Shift in the Royal Hunt Cup.

A big field and strong pace is just what this six-year-old enjoys.

The feature event is the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes over five furlongs.

The Charge at Sandown might hold the key here and Raasel was lucky to win that with Mitbaahy unlucky and Equilateral desperately unfortunate.

The problem with Equilateral is he finds winning hard, so I’ll go with the three-year-old MITBAAHY (3.35) for Roger Varian and David Egan.

I suspect there is more to come from this three-year-old and this is a winnable renewal.

Finally on ITV, it’s a nursery handicap for youngsters over six furlongs. KAASIB (4.45) has an eachway chance for Clive Cox and William Buick.

The US Navy Flag colt wasn’t disgraced in the Windsor Castle behind Little Big Bear and has dropped 1lb after a second at Ffos Las. That was probably a fair run and a mark of 82 looks workable.
