Harry Maguire £85m transfer to Man Utd all but confirmed by Solskjaer as boss says only ‘last details’ to be sorted ahead of Chelsea opener – The Sun

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER expects Harry Maguire to be at the heart of his Manchester United defence against Chelsea next Sunday.

England international Maguire underwent a medical ahead of his £85million move from Leicester City on Saturday.

And United boss Solskjaer is already planning for the world’s most expensive defender to go straight into his team for the big Premier League kick-off.

He said: “I’ve got a good idea of my starting line-up for Chelsea and Harry has played a few games over the summer so he should be ready. We’ll just have to assess him if and when.

“We’ve just got the last little details to get over the line and hopefully we can announce something very soon.”

And Solskjaer insisted that Paul Pogba will also be in his team next Sunday despite the £89million Frenchman’s hopes of clinching a last-gasp move to Real Madrid.

Pogba pulled out of yesterday’s final pre-season game against AC Milan with a back spasm and Solksjaer denied suggestions that the player had refused to travel to Cardiff.

He said: “I have no doubts at all that Paul still wants to play for Manchester United.

“He isn’t injured, he’s just in some pain and I wasn’t going to risk anything this weekend with only eight days to go before the first game.

“I knew he wouldn’t be travelling to Cardiff because I spoke to him about it after training on Friday and he wasn’t right.

“He’ll probably be back in training early next week and I hope he should be OK for Chelsea.”

Yet there appears to be no way back for unsettled striker Romelu Lukaku and United are desperate to offload the Belgian international to Juventus in exchange for Paulo Dybala or Mario Mandzukic.

Lukaku has angered a number of his United, particularly full-back Luke Shaw, by revealing the results of the club’s sprint tests in Twitter.

He was immediately ordered to remove the post on Friday night and Solskjaer said: “Put it this way, I’ve spoken to Rom about it and now it’s case closed.”

Lukaku, a £75million buy from Everton two years ago, will only be allowed to leave if United can get another striker in before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

But Solksjaer revealed that Ashley Young will be his new club captain this season after Antonio Valencia was allowed to leave this summer.

He confirmed: “David De Gea is in contention for the captaincy but Ash will carry the armband when he’s on the pitch. When he starts the game, he wears the armband.”

United’s penalty shoot-out against AC Milan yesterday means they have won all six of their pre-season games and Solskjaer added: “There were parts of the game I wasn’t happy with which we’ll need to eradicate, but we are ready for next week when there are Premier League points at stake.

“It’s been a very good five weeks and we’ve shown our intentions. Now we hope to carry this form into the League.
