  • RED FLAG

Session has been stopped Giovinazzi has pulled over. Looks like he didn't get away with that spin after all! We had just 13 seconds left of that session.

  • SPIN FOR GIOVINAZZI

That could have been nasty but somehow he misses the barriers. Incredible save.

  • HAMILTON GOES QUICKER

He looks safely in to Q2 with another quick lap.

Ricciardo has also now moved away from the drop zone.

    Both McLarens also looking strong.

  • STILL FIVE MINUTES TO GO

But Grosjean, Giovinazzi, Gasly, Perez and Russell are in the drop zone. Ricciardo is on the cusp of the bottom five.

  • HAMILTON RECOVERS TO TAKE P1

The world champion is over his wobble and goes safely to the top of the timesheets.

Lando Norris is now down in 19th place. Don't forget he was third here last weekend but has been suffering from back pain.

  • LECLERC TOPS Q1 – BUT DANGER FOR HAMILTON

The Ferrari man leds the field from Bottas and Giovinazzi.

Hamilton must have been off the track as he is slow and down in 19th place.

  • GROSJEAN HAS AN OFF

The Frenchman loses control in his Haas and drifts off track.

And Vettel is also struggling out there. Conditions are getting much worse.

  • CONDITIONS ARE SHOCKING

There is one heck of a lot of water out there on the track.

Visibility is very poor and Bottas is told the weather will get “heavier shortly”.

  • GO, GO, GO

This is going to be chaos. The rain is getting heavier.

We had ages to get this session done…

    Vettel is first out.

  • BIT OF A JOKE

All 20 cars are waiting in the pitlane for the light to go green.

  • IT IS RAINING AGAIN

But we are pressing ahead with an attempt at qualifying.

Today has all been rather rubbish for F1. Certainly, not it's best moment.

  • QUALIFYING WILL START IN 10 MINUTES

I stand corrected, we do have a crack at getting this qualifying underway. The session will start in 10 minutes.

  • HANG ON…

There is a break in the weather and the Safety Car is out on track.

The driver will report back the conditions to say if it is safe to have a crack at qualifying.

  • I AM GOING TO CALL THIS NOW

I don't think we are going to get qualifying today.

And it will be moved to Sunday morning.

  • IT IS STILL RAINING

Why, oh why didn't F1 run it earlier?

    TV times. That's why.

    Bonkers.

  • A FURTHER DEAL TO QUALIFYING

If only there was a break in the weather to run quali.

    Oh, there was…

  • HAMILTON IS OUT OF HIS CAR

I think Mercedes have seen enough of the rain to make a decision.

Lewis Hamilton is out of his car.

Got to say, it is heavy cloud here now.

  • DELAY TO QUALIFYING

Incredibly, we have had 90 minutes of dry weather here in Austria.

During that time, we had zero rain and the track dried out nicely.

Now, though, it has started raining again and the start of qualifying has been delayed.

    Couldn't make it up!

  • The rain has stopped and the drivers are about to get underway…

  • 'GOOD DAY FOR DUCKS'

F1 appear to confirm qualifying is set to go ahead as planned.

  • STUCK IN SECOND GEAR

Jeremy Clarkson has had his say on proceedings in Austria.

  • SAFETY FIRST

F1 safety car driver Bernd Maylander has suggested that qualifying could start as scheduled.

He said: “Five minutes ago I got out of the car and can say that the track is now driveable.

“We can only hope that it will not start raining again.

“Up to Turn 3 there is water and Turn 6, 7, 9 there is standing water, which you don't want to have.

“The track is getting dry. I think we can start at 3pm (2pm UK time).”

  • ALL SYSTEMS GO?

The rain has stopped in Austria so we could be looking at qualifying going ahead as planned at 2pm.
