Belgium vs Wales LIVE SCORE: Latest updates from World Cup 2022 qualifying match

WALES are facing a daunting opening to their World Cup qualifying campaign in Belgium.

The Belgian Red Devils are without doubt the strongest team in the group on paper with Czech Republic, Belarus and Estonia the other three teams.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    60. A decent count attack from Wales ultimately ends in disappointment.

The build-up was good though from Roberts' cross-field pass to Bale using his skill and nous to utilise James' blistering pace.

At the moment, it's a forward line lacking a focal point. Kieffer Moore, anyone?

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    58. Another shot from James, but it's even more wild and wayward. It might even have ended up further from the goal than from where it started.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    56. Bale has moved central, and it seems to have brought James into the game more. The Manchester United forward gets a shot away but it veers from its target.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    55. Mertens tries to play in Hazard with a slick back-heel down the left wing, but Connor Roberts stays alert to the danger and does very well to cut the attack out.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    52. A spell of head tennis is ended by an uncompromising clearance from Rodon. Like Peter Kay at his finest.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    50. I've just heard Aaron Ramsey has scored twice, but don't get too excited, Wales fans. It's for Aston Villa in the FA Youth Cup against Brighton.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    48. Bale nearly dribbles his way through the Belgian defence to level.

The Wales captain does brilliantly to keep the ball in play from the byline, and then weaves beyond Vertonghen and Denayer. He tries to make room for a shoot, but Belgium manage to get enough bodies back to deny him the opportunity.

Bale then tries an acrobatic overhead seconds later when play is kept alive from the left, but fails to make a telling contact.

Better from the visitors and their skipper.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    47. Intent from Wales at the start of the second half as left wing-back Neco Williams crosses into the box to where right wing-back Connor Roberts challenges for the ball.

It's something neither player managed in the first half.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    46. It's Belgium that have made a half-time change as Wales kick-off for the second half.

At the back, Jason Denayer has come on with Thomas Vermaelen making way.

    THE ACTION RESTARTS!

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN

And how bloody good he is.

    ONE TOUCH OF CLASS

They may be behind at the break, but Harry Wilson's goal for Wales was a beautiful example of one-touch attacking football.

    Enjoy.

    HT: BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

Belgium lead Wales at the break in Group E, having come from behind through goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Thorgen Hazard. It has started so well for Rob Page's team too despite the early injury to Joe Allen, and they had found themselves in front following Harry Wilson's wonderful opener.

    PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
    THAT'S THE HALF-TIME WHISTLE!

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    45. Two minutes of stoppage time are signalled at the end of the first half that has some real highs and lows for Wales.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    44. Alderweireld goes looking for Meunier with one of his trademark raking passes. The intended recipient is flagged offside.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    42. Bale gets on the ball, and looks to make something happen. Before he can decide on the best course of action, however, he's surrounded by five white shirts.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    40. Belgium play keep ball, knocking it impressively about between their defence and midfield. That is until Tielemans misdirects his pass intended for Meunier, and instead sends it out for a throw.

You're not dealing with the pace of Marc Albrighton now, Youri.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    37. Wilson is up and moving about, albeit somewhat gingerly.

At the other end, Belgium push forward again where Hazard makes the mistake of taking the ball off the toes of Lukaku. Firing it well over from 30 yards isn't going to help his case when they discuss it in more detail later.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    34. Wales have another injury concern as Harry Wilson goes down in the centre-circle.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne gets some words of advice from Roberto Martinez on the sidelines.

Not that the Manchester City midfielder needs much. De Bruyne has been directly involved in 14 goals across his last eight appearances for Belgium (five goals and nine assists), scoring in back-to-back matches for his country for the first time since May 2016.

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    32. Another Belgium attempt registered as Hazard fires over from outside the box after Lukaku had held up and laid off.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    30. The home side are now comfortable and confident, and that's a worrying combination for the Welsh.

On the one occasion they had to showcase their talents, the Wales forward line looked sensational, but they've barely seen the ball since taking the lead.

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 2-1 WALES

    28. Belgium have turned it right around in Leuven, and now lead through Thorgen Hazard!

It's another goal of real simplicity with the Borussia Dortmund midfielder heading Thomas Meunier's right-wing cross past Danny Ward.

Hazard may have had some work to do if Connor Roberts had challenged him, but the Swansea man unfortunately slipped at the vital moment and the Belgian made no mistake.

It's an uphill task for Wales now.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL!!
THORGEN HAZARD HEADS BELGIUM IN FRONT!!

  • Sam Dymond

    BELGIUM 1-1 WALES

    26. Williams dribbles his way into trouble, otherwise known as three Belgium players.

He gets away with it by going over and being awarded a free-kick. De Bruyne wags his finger at referee Cuneyt Cakir in disagreement.
