Anthony Joshua will get battered by Andy Ruiz Jr again unless he addresses ‘physical or mental problem’, warns Lennox Lewis – The Sun

ANTHONY JOSHUA will be a push over for Andy Ruiz Jr again unless he drastically addresses the problems that crippled him in their first bout.

Boxing’s last undisputed heavyweight king, Lennox Lewis, watched the June 1 fight and believes there was a mental or physical issue that cost the Watford star his three world titles.

AJ has denied any behind-the-scenes conspiracies, ranging from a sparring concussion to a pre-fight panic attack.

But Lewis, 53, insists the 29-year-old Brit hero has got to face up to his failings and reboot for the winter rematch.

When asked by the PBC Podcast who wins the rerun, Lewis said: “That is an easy fight for whoever wants it most.

“Anthony Joshua did not look the same, going into that fight, as he did for all his other fights.

“Whether it was a physical or mental problem, if he does not change it, Andy Ruiz Jr wins the next fight."

Mexican hero Ruiz started boxing aged just eight, Joshua did not pick up a pair of gloves until he was an 18-year-old man.

The gap in experience was clear for all to see in New York’s Madison Square Garden, as the Englishman was dropped four times.

But Lewis, who battled back and avenged two shock defeats against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman, says Joshua can turn it around.

He said: “You can make such drastic changes, a couple of my fights ended with unbelievable punches that my chin got in the way of.

“I came back from those and changed the course of my career by making sure my defence was much better for the first fight and regaining my focus and rekindling the fire inside of me for the second.

“With Anthony Joshua, he came in and it seemed something was wrong. Unless they fix that or figure it out, then he will be a different fighter.”
