She’s known for her impeccable sense of style, and Queen Letizia of Spain didn’t disappoint as she chaired a Spanish Red Cross meeting on violence against women today. 

Channelling business chic, the mother-of-two, 47, stepped out in a grey tartan patterned two piece suit with a crisp white undershirt. 

When arriving at the Spanish Red Cross HQ, the monarch elegantly saw off the wet and blustery conditions with a cream suede coat flung effortlessly over her shoulder  à la Meghan Markle who is known to deploy the chic ‘shoulder-robe’ look with her outerwear.

The Queen was without her husband King Felipe, whom she married at the Almudena Cathedral at Royal Palace, Madrid, in May 2004. 

Today she was pictured alongside the likes of Spanish Health Minister, Salvador Illa (, and Spanish Red Cross’ Chairman, Javiern Senent as they discussed the topic ‘Gender Violence: Strategies and Challenges’.

When the monarch arrived at the HQ in the Spanish capital, she was greeted by a whole host of delegates from the political and charity spheres. 

She completed her outfit with a pair of black pointed heels and a leather clutch bag. 

Her appearance comes on the birthday of her grandmother Menchu ​​Álvarez del Valle, who turns 92.

She revealed to Spanish publication Diez Minutos that she still speaks to her son Jesus, the father of the queen, daily – and he ‘scolds’ her for a particular habit.

‘I keep smoking because I like it by now … I’ve tried to quit because my son scolds me,’ she said. 

It’s been a busy time for Letizia who was back at work last week a day after the death of her husband’s aunt Doña Pilar, who lost her long battle to colon cancer aged 83 on Wednesday.

A day later, Letizia was at Gregorio Marañón General Hospital where she had a working meeting with the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER). 

Yesterday, she hosted film bosses at the Palace of Zarzuela in Madrid. 

Before marrying into the royal family, Letizia had previously worked as a reporter for the news channel 24 Horas, where she held a weekly anchor position on the show Informe Semanal and also a position on the daily morning news programme.
