Man shares brutal Christmas text from his mum asking if he’s still single

One man's WhatsApp exchange with his mum has gone viral after she quizzed him on why he is still single.

Adem Waterman shared the brutal conversation online and fellow singletons were quick to share their own experiences.

The chat began with Adem's mum texting him and asking: "Writing your Christmas card? Shall I put to just Adem or do you have a boyfriend yet?"

Adem replied: "No boyfriend. You can just put my name on it."

But nothing could have prepared Adem for the brutal response from his mother.

Not holding back at all, she typed back: "Okay will do. Do you think it's your personality or looks?"

"Jesus Christ mum. It's Christmas!" Adem fired back, to which she replied: "Well you brothers and sisters have partners," followed by a kiss.

Adem posted a picture of the conversation on Twitter and wrote alongside it: "MUM. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU TOO," and it has since garnered 65,000 likes.

Fellow Twitter users were quick to comment and share their own experiences.

One person admitted: "When I phoned my gran to tell her I'd given birth to a baby girl, and I was naming her Violet, my gran said, 'Oh, I won't write that name on the card incase you change your mind'.

"And she didn't. The card said Baby. Families are work."

A second revealed: "I was made redundant last Christmas. My parents both said to me that I was unlikely to find another job, since I was “no spring chicken” and that I should just sell my house and move in with them!

"Got new (and better) job at start of lockdown in April. Phew!"

A third replied: "My mum, when I was 30: 'It’s a good thing you’re staying single. If you had a baby now, you’d never get the weight off'.

"A dig at my age, inability to find a partner and weight in one sentence: quite an achievement!"
