Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that her ‘proper’ mother Blythe Danner is ‘always’ shocked by the sexual content she publishes on Goop — and says she also hesitated to let her daughter Apple Martin join appear on the site.
The 48-year-old actress appeared on the Today show this morning to discuss her Goop brand, her family, and her ongoing experience as a COVID long-hauler, and no subject — even her mom’s sexuality and ‘female pleasure’ — were off-limits.
When asked by Savannah Guthrie whether Gwyneth’s ‘proper’ 78-year-old mother is ever shocked by raunchy Goop content and the sex toys they sell, Gwyneth laughed that she ‘always’ is, but added: ‘She is [proper], but even proper ladies have sexuality too.’

Yet sex toys and sex-related products have been a fan favorite on Goop, and Gwyneth’s website regularly curates sexual product and gift guides.
Over the years, they’ve included multiple vibrators — some incredibly pricey — lingerie, sex toys, whips, genital-themed jewelry, handcuffs, a body-painting kit, and massage oil.
The annual Sex Issue has included articles about porn, BDSM, tantric sex, and threesomes, as well as product suggestions that included a $15,000 gold-plated dildo, a $535 leather whip, and a BDSM starter kit.
Speaking on Today this morning, Gwyneth said she is ‘not surprised’ that the vibrators she sells keep flying off the shelves.
‘I think that our sexuality is such an important part of who we are,’ Gwyneth said. ‘We’re on morning television, so we can’t talk about female pleasure … it sort of gives you an insight into how culturally its still taboo.
‘And one of the things we really believe in at Goop is eliminating shame from these topics,’ she said.
Of course, Goop also covers other topics like fashion and beauty, and the site recently debuted the new Goopglow collection — with Gwyneth’s 16-year-old daughter Apple joining the campaign this month.
‘She was sort of part of the product development process,’ Gwyneth explained of Apple’s involvement, ‘and so then when it came out, I was like, should I let her be int he picture or not? Because she wanted to be in the picture. So we decided to let her.’
In August of 2020, Apple also interviewed her mom and grandmother on ‘skincare, aging, and generational beauty’ for Goop, and joined her mother to model her G. Label clothing in July.
Most recently, Apple teased her mom about her skincare routine with a viral TikTok video, ‘trolling’ her about her products and even vaginal eggs.
‘So first, my mom drinks her GoopGlow Superpowder, and she eats nothing except for dates and almond butter. So she will have that,’ Apple said in the video. ‘I suppose the GoopGlow is a part of her cleanse, which she’s been on since the day I was born. Apparently.’
She goes on to say her mom ‘just prances around the bathroom, putting on her millions of GoopGlow products for her glowing skin’ and then ‘gets to work making some more vagina eggs and candles — also vagina candles — and vagina perfumes. Just everything vagina.’

Laughing about the clip with Savannah, Gwyneth remarked: ‘That’s what she does all the time!’
But while Apple is happy to join in on mom’s Goop brand, Gwyneth insists neither of she nor her son Moses, 15, know what they want to be when they grow up.
‘Both of my kids are like, “We don’t wanna think about what we wanna do, we just kind of wanna see what unfolds,”‘ she said.
Gwyneth added that being home so much with her kids during the pandemic has been a ‘silver lining’ in a tough year, which she is grateful for.
‘It’s been the best. There are some really significant, profound silver linings from this crazy 12 months. And that time with the kids has been definitely on the top of the list,’ she said.
She is also loving live with her husband Brad Falchuck, saying things have been ‘amazing’ since they moved in together.
The pair had said ‘I do’ in September of 2018, but maintained separate homes until about a year later, moving into one house shortly before the pandemic hit.

Health: Gwyneth actually came down with COVID-19 early on and has had long-hauler symptoms, but said he is ‘better and better’
‘I married the right dude. He is the best,’ she said. ‘There is nobody better to be stuck with.’
Certainly a hard part of the pandemic, though, has been that Gwyneth actually came down with COVID-19 early on, and had continued to experience long-hauler symptoms.
‘I had COVID-19 early on, and it left me with some long-tail fatigue and brain fog,’ she wrote for Goop in February. ‘In January, I had some tests done that showed really high levels of inflammation in my body.’
She said she turned to ‘intuitive fasting, supplements, and exercise to feel better — and insists that her plan has mostly worked.
‘Sometimes they come back a little bit but I think I’m better and better. It’s been pretty crazy though, it’s been pretty wild, I’m not gonna lie,’ she said on Today.
